EMPORIUM - PERSEPHONE

EMPORIUM - PERSEPHONE

MIFF / Emporium

Persephone

Partnering with Melbourne International Film Festival and Emporium Melbourne Fran produced this short film to welcome Spring. Premiering on opening night gala at MIFF, it then appeared before 80% festival screenings and on the big screens in Emporium itself.

Starring Lily Sullivan this film centres around the story of Persephone, a Greek Goddess - married to the God of the Underworld, Hades. According to mythology, Hades fell in love with the beautiful maiden when he saw her picking flowers one day in a meadow. After forcing her to live with him in the underworld he allowed her to leave for spring – but only if she would return. Persephone is symbolic of the changing seasons and the perennial cycle of life and death, to life once more, or in other words, the change from summer to winter and the budding of spring.
